Fewest Coins
Choose coins from your wallet to hand to the cashier. Find the way to pay where the number of coins you give plus the number of coins you get back as change is the smallest. Sometimes taking change beats paying the exact amount. The game uses Japanese yen coins.
How to play
- Pick a difficulty and press Start. There are 10 questions.
- The amount to pay is shown at the top.
- Tap coins in your wallet to hand them over. Tap a coin you handed over to put it back.
- When the amount you paid reaches the price, press Pay. Change comes back in the fewest coins possible.
Three difficulties
- Easy: prices under ¥1,000. Your wallet is well stocked.
- Normal: prices under ¥2,000. Your wallet is limited.
- Demon: a poor wallet, where taking change always beats paying exact.
Scoring and ranks
Each question is worth up to 100 points. Every coin above the minimum costs you 25 points. The maximum is 1,000 points over 10 questions, with ranks from "Lost in loose change" to "Change master". After answering, the best way to pay is shown.
The coins
Six coins are used: ¥1, ¥5, ¥10, ¥50, ¥100 and ¥500. Banknotes are not used. Change is always given in the fewest coins possible.
Tips
- Do not insist on paying exact. For ¥660, handing over ¥1,000 worth of coins and getting ¥340 back can use fewer coins.
- Count the coins of change too. ¥340 of change is three ¥100 and four ¥10, seven coins in all.
- Think from the big coins down. Decide how to use the ¥500 and ¥100 coins first, then adjust the rest.
