Lose to Win Rock-Paper-Scissors
A rock-paper-scissors game where you have to lose on purpose. If you win, that's a mistake. It tests your mental switching and reflexes.
How to play
- Choose a mode and press Start. After a three-second countdown, round 1 begins.
- The CPU's hand (rock, scissors or paper) appears at the top of the screen.
- Before the time runs out, choose the hand that fits the rule. On a computer you can also use the 1, 2 and 3 keys (or the left, down and right arrow keys).
- There are 20 rounds. The game ends when you have made three mistakes or run out of time three times.
The three modes
- Lose to win: The rule is always "lose". Against rock, play scissors; against scissors, play paper; against paper, play rock.
- Mix: "Win", "Lose" and "Draw" appear at random. Do what the screen says.
- Demon: The rule is the color, not the word. Red means win, blue means lose, green means draw. The words are often wrong on purpose. Each color also has a shape mark (▲ ■ ●) to help if colors are hard to tell apart.
Score and titles
Your score is the number of correct answers (out of 20), and it decides your title. Answer all 20 correctly for a perfect run. Your best score for each mode is saved in your browser only, and is not sent to any server. You can copy your result as text with the "Copy result" button. The time limit gets shorter in the later rounds.
Tips
- Don't think about beating the CPU. For "lose", just play the next hand in the cycle (rock → scissors → paper → rock).
- For a draw, copy the CPU. Play the same hand.
- In demon mode, don't read the words. Memorize the three colors in the legend and look only at the color.
- Stay calm. After a mistake the next round comes right away, so focus on that one.
FAQ
How is losing decided?
It uses the normal rules: rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, and paper beats rock. When the rule says "lose", the correct answer is a hand that loses to the CPU's hand.
Sometimes my button press does nothing.
While the result of a round is showing, input is ignored until the next round begins. Press after the next hand appears.
